In the southern reaches of Huila, Peñas Blancas represents a new chapter in Colombian coffee innovation. Led by Nestor Lasso and Jhoan Vergara, two of Colombia’s most forward-thinking producers, this project brings together smallholder farmers who are eager to refine their craft and pursue higher quality. Through collaboration, training, and shared expertise, producers gain access to advanced processing systems that help their coffees reach an international market while strengthening the livelihoods of families across Acevedo.
 
Peñas Blancas operates with a focus on community, education, and sustainability. Producers, agronomists, and industry experts work closely to refine fermentation techniques, improve drying conditions, and ensure full traceability from farm to export. The goal is simple: to create an environment where shared knowledge and precision elevate both the coffee and the people who grow it.
 
This special lot features the rare Java variety, grown at 1,750 meters and naturally processed to highlight its full fruit character. Java traces its lineage to Ethiopia, and after traveling through Indonesia, Cameroon, and Central America, it found a home in Colombia where it expresses remarkable complexity. Known for its aromatic florals, vibrant fruit tones, and refined structure, Java thrives in the volcanic soil and cool climate of Huila.
 
In the cup, Peñas Blancas Java is vivid and expressive. Expect notes of cherry pie, dark chocolate, and freeze-dried raspberry balanced by passionfruit, hibiscus, and pomegranate. The natural process gives the coffee a wine-like acidity and a silky, lingering finish. Every part of this lot reflects the ambition and creativity of its producers, whose work continues to expand the possibilities of Colombian coffee.
 
Peñas Blancas Java is a very limited release and a showcase of what happens when experimentation, education, and world-class terroir come together. It is textured, layered, and unmistakably special.
